About Us
Pembroke Academy Players- Spartan/Maestro Singers - PAMA
The Pembroke Academy Players is a high-school troupe of actors and actresses that performs twice a year. The Fall productions are traditionally musicals. The past few years have seen an incredible amount of talent pass through; performances have included Jekyll and Hyde, Fiddler on the Roof, Into the Woods, and South Pacific. The Spring productions have recently included Our Town, Harvey, Romeo & Juliet, and Arsenic and Old Lace. Behind the scenes of these shows is a group of adults and teenagers who have a love for theater and a desire for excellence. The auditorium at Pembroke Academy is simple, but the conglomeration of talents and skills that lives there is nothing short of incredible. A defining aspect of every PA Players production is the passion on display in each character on stage. If you have not experienced a show at Pembroke Academy, we implore you to join us for our next show!
-THE PA PLAYERS-
-Spartan/Maestro Singers-
The Spartan Singers is a community chorus that meets every Wednesday at 2:30. It is comprised mostly of high-school students, but adults from the community are welcome as well. Like the PA Players, the Spartans also perform twice a year; in the winter for the Christmas Concert and in the spring for the Spring Pops Concert. In 2010 and 2011, the Spartans competed in an event in Springfield, MA and took home a score of platinum both years - the highest available score. This past spring, the Spartans were selected to sing at the National Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, DC. The Spartans were one of two schools in NH to be selected for this event. They sang at a veterans home just outside DC and then on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial - despite the whipping winds of a spring day in DC! The Maestro Singers are an a Capella group that is selected from participants in the Spartan Singers. The Maestros have performed their rendition of the National Anthem at the 2010 and 2011 NHIAA Scholar-Athlete Awards at the Capitol Center for the Arts. The Maestros also competed in Springfield in 2010 and 2011, taking home a score of high gold both years. The arrival of Ms. Cheryl Lafond as the head of the Music Department has sparked a revival of the music program, which has become one of the best after-school activities at Pembroke.
-PAMA-
Pembroke Academy Music Association
The Pembroke Academy Music Association, better known as PAMA, is a new parent group that was formed in 2010. It is comprised mostly from parents of the Spartan Singers, but also includes members from the community who want to be involved. PAMA is in charge of all fundraising for trips that the chorus makes. Last year, they organized a pancake breakfast to benefit the Spartan/Maestro trip to Washington DC, among other smaller fundraisers to ease the cost for those making the trip. PAMA also helps to organize the concerts, making sure that there are people to run the concessions, ticket table, and raffle. This year, they are putting together an ice cream social for the students and their parents in order to get the Spartan Singers community together and give information about the upcoming events. Any parents of teenagers in the chorus are welcome to join. If you are interested in participating, contact Ms. Lafond for more information
